Drinking Living Water Through a Fire Hose – Day 15: II Kings 5-15, Psalms 74-77, Proverbs 15, Acts 16-23

2 kings 5 Naaman cured of leprosy by Elisha. He was angry at the instructions at first but obeyed. We may not like the instruction God gives us, but obedience brings reward. Naaman wanted to give a tribute/offering, but Elisha refused. Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, demanded tribute after it was refused by Elisha, and so he was afflicted with leprosy because 1) he had taken payment after the master didn’t want it and 2) he lied to his master about it. We should serve and not demand payment if God is taking care of us. However in the NT the scriptures read that the laborer is worthy of his hire, in discussing serving the Lord

6 Elisha recovers an ax head from deep waters by throwing a stick after it. Elisha has God blind some Arameans and takes them to Samaria, they eat and are sent home well. Aram’s king besieges Samaria, the people are starving enough to sacrifice their children, the king of Israel is seen to be repentant
7 Elisha promises the end of the famine will be tomorrow, and lepers discover the abandoned tents of the Arameans. God had caused them to hear some loud clattering in the night. Thinking it was an enemy army they fled. 9- Jehu is annointed King of Israel, Jezebel’s death is foretold and occurs. 10- Jehu kills all of Ahab’s survivors AND the prophets of Baal, but continues to worship the golden calves. 11- The royal line (to Jesus) is decimated, all except one: 1 When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to destroy the whole royal family. 2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the royal princes, who were about to be murdered. She put him and his nurse in a bedroom to hide him from Athaliah; so he was not killed. 3 He remained hidden with his nurse at the temple of the LORD for six years while Athaliah ruled the land.
Athaliah the queen and Mattan priest of Baal are killed, the lone survivor 7 year old Joash (Jehoash) becomes king before Athaliah is killed, she sees it and yells “treason!” Then she is arrested and killed with the sword. Joash collects money and wants to repair the temple but the people don’t do it. Offerings are then collected and then workmen are paid a fair wage to work on the repairs. Joash is assassinated and Amaziah takes over. 13-14 Evil Kings on all sides. 15 and assassinations of kings on all sides.

Proverbs 15 33 The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
Acts 16 Paul picks up Timothy, Lydia believes, Paul and Silas jailed for casting the profitable spirit out of the slave girl. Earthquake opens the jail, jailer is converted.
Acts 17 Paul at Thessalonica, then Berea: 11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Jews stir up trouble for them out of jealousy. Paul teaches about the “Unknown God.”
