Drinking Living Water from a Fire Hose- Day 5: Leviticus 1-27, Psalms 24-29, Proverbs 5, Mark 6-12

Today is Saturday and I am taking a more leisurely stroll. Still feels like big gulps, but that’s all right. I really enjoyed Mark 5, so much I want to spend more time there- Jesus healed a lady because of her faith, and then wanted everyone to know who she was and what had happened, to encourage everyone’s faith. Including hers. Just before, Jesus had sent a Legion of demons from one guy, into a herd of pigs. I wonder what people think about demons today. With the state of modern medicine, I’m sure people of our era would diagnose schizophrenia, epilepsy, and other disorders, and ignore completely the possibility that a “condition” could be demonic. I believe that some people really do have chemical imbalances and problems that are not demonic, and can be treated by medicines. I also believe that some problems are caused by demons. And I believe that Jesus healed them all. I believe firmly that we should use all of the benefits that medical science offers, but also that we should exercise our faith and pray for miracles, including healing. “And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith. (Matthew 13:58)” I would like to be such a prayer warrior that God worked miracles because I believe. Lately I haven’t seen much of this, and why? Matthew 13:58 perhaps? Medical science can’t prove the existence of demons, and therefore doesn’t believe in them or their impact on the life of a person who isn’t spirit-filled.

Leviticus 3: Don’t eat fat or blood. Ick. But there are people who like that, I guess. How about gravy or au jus instead? It’s mentioned in other places as a perpetual statute, no matter what anyone else does or says, an Israelite isn’t supposed to eat bloody meat or fat
Leviticus 9:24 cool.
Leviticus 10:1-2 scary.
Leviticus 11: Trichinosis in undercooked pork, Vibrio parahaemolyticus in undercooked shellfish, bloodborne pathogens, whatever germs are in or on carrion eaters, etc.- without the benefit of microscopes the children of israel were protected (if they obeyed God) from getting any of these diseases from their food. Leviticus 18 says not to commit perversions or the land will vomit you out as it did those who were perverse before the Israelites got to the promised land.
Mark 7, Jesus declared all food clean, suggesting rather that what came out of the heart is what showed whether they were clean or not. The soul motivates the mind and the heart. It’s not what goes in that makes one unclean any more, it’s the spirit and the heart and the actions.

Mark 7 Jesus is impressed by a woman’s faith- a crumb of God’s power is enough for her.

Mark 8 Jesus is the Great Optometrist, and Peter has perfect sight of Who Jesus really is.

Mark 9:24, the cry of my heart: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Mark 10 The kingdom of heaven is for people with a child-like faith and trust in God. A rich guy who trusts in his riches can’t get in even if he keeps the whole rest of the law- with an idol like money holding his heart The disciples argue for prominence in Jesus’ kingdom reign. Bartimaeus was healed, again, Jesus the optometrist. Mark 11:22-24, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Just kidding, that’s in Hebrews 11:1, but it’s strikingly similar in intent. Mark 12 the test of a woman’s faith in giving what she needed to live, vs the arrogance of those giving large gifts out of their abundance.
