Drinking Living Water Through a Fire Hose- Day 3: Exodus 1-21, Psalms 17-18, Proverbs 3, Matthew 18-26

I got a late start to writing. My computer is being precocious. Hopefully it’ll make it, and not make this more of an uphill climb than I’m already feeling.

Exodus: Midwives lied to protect boy babies, and in their deceit, were blessed by God. Moses murdered a guy and buried him in the sand, still gets heavily blessed by God. Hiding at Midian, he gets a wife, has a child, bush doesn’t burn but looks like it’s burning, Moses tries to w-w… w-w-w-… w-w-w-wimp out of God’s calling on his life. He gets a clear job description and is reassured that God will help, then gets a second person to go with to s-s-s… s-s-speak FOR him.

So again, God, if you can use a murderer, maybe there’s a place in your kingdom for another guy to be put to work, and to be provided for. And I’m willing. Like Jacob in Genesis 28:20-22, I’d like You to take care of me and my family and I’d like to be able to give you a tenth of everything You give to me, or more if it’s in excess of our need. I’ll even say it, or sing it, and I don’t need someone to say it for me.

After the plagues struck Egypt each time the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, but the people of Egypt were afraid of Israel. After he let them leave, God sent them south to avoid conflict and discouragement in Philistine country. (Ex 13) And indeed, as soon as Pharaoh came after them they were discouraged and lamented leaving their bondage in Egypt (Exodus 14). It was the first time, not the last, that they said they wanted to go back to being slaves. But they had earlier left with bold hearts. And after God delivered them from the Egyptians, they were encouraged- for a short time, until the next difficulty.

And they sang: 15:12 “You stretch out your right hand, and the earth swallows your enemies. 13 In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.” Please stretch out your right hand for me and help me, and lead and guide me, too.

Exodus 16, this Manna is fascinating stuff. The closest thing I can think of that it’s like is Frosted Flakes, but then the humidity and maggots ruined them overnight, except on Saturday morning, when they needed an extra day’s worth because it didn’t rain and distill on the ground. They ate this and quail until they got to the promised land.

Matthew 21:21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

“Lord I believe, help my unbelief.”

21:23-27 this is a hilarious interchange between Jesus and his opponents. He doesn’t really call them out, but shows that he is very wise. 22:15-22 is another funny exchange about taxes and charity.

Matthew 23- let’s not forget, Christ-followers, where we came from, and how Jesus met us where we were, when we were yet sinners, and let’s don’t slam the door of the church in people’s faces by making it too hard for them to come as we did, to the foot of the cross. It was hard enough for us, we should make it as easy as we can for anyone else. God calls us to come, and when we come THEN tells us to repent.

Matthew 24:4-5, how SUBTLE Satan is. He has his “messiahs” teach a lot of truth mixed with a tiny bit of lies, and many people are led astray unless they can spot the lies. Truly, “the devil is in the details.” As it was in Genesis with Eve. 24:22, interesting that earthquakes are already shortening our days, a half a second at a time.
